Shoulder experts from around the world gathered in Paris on 14th - 16th February 2019 to discuss the most recent concepts in shoulder arthroscopy at the Paris International Shoulder Course. VirtaMed was kindly invited by Prof. Philippe Valenti, Chairman of the Congress, to be part of the course.

The orthopedic surgeons were impressed by the outstanding teaching possibilities that the VirtaMed ArthroS simulator offers. Once again, after the great success at the Advanced Course on Shoulder Arthroscopy in Val d'Isère, the shoulder experts also had the opportunity to compete against each other on the ArthroS™ Shoulder.  In fact, more than 30 experts took the time to complete the various arthroscopic tasks while VirtaMed Connect kept track of all their moves, measuring their speed, accuracy and safety.

It was a very tight race for the podium position, and in the end 3 participants achieved the maximum score. Dr. Rebecca Zeledón, an orthopedic surgeon from Costa Rica, was the fastest among these top scorers and therefore won the competition. Congratulations to her and to the runners-up!

There were also less experienced surgeons present at the congress, who joined to observe the live surgeries. The high interest expressed by the younger generations of surgeons in the high-fidelity simulators, supported by feedback on feeling more familiar and gaining confidence through training with hands-on experience, enhances surgical simulation as a meaningful component in surgical training. VirtaMed will remain involved in curriculum development and setting standards in arthroscopy training.
